Parental Helper 101

My Story

Welcome to my story. I started off wanting to help children grow, learn and feel special. I became a childcare / preschool teacher in 1986. My professional career started on this path in college as I was changing my major many times. I obtained my AS degree in child development and have used my knowledge to help many children and families. I am very proud of this. I continued my education at Point Park University in Elementary Education as I worked as a Lead Teacher helping 2 and 3 year old’s. As I became a parent of 3 wonderful children , I put school on hold for a bit. Finally, I was able to complete my Bachelor’s degree. Now, as a grandparent and still teaching; my dream is to help others navigate this crazy world we call parenthood.. Please feel free to join me on this journey where I am going to share stories, tips and ideas from my work on behalf of children and families. I don’t have all the answers but I will share some of the things I learned and hopefully support you.

“As parents we need to try to find the security within ourselves to accept the fact that children and parents won’t always like each other’s actions, that there will be times when parents and children won’t be able to be friends, and that there will be times of real anger in families. But we need to know, at the same time, that moments of conflict have nothing to do with whether parents and children really love one another. It’s our continuing love for our children that makes us want them to become all they can be, capable of making sound choices.”
